It was a very long season for Portland State, but it couldn't have ended on a better note for Melvin Jones.

Behind Jones’ 25 points, the Portland State Vikings beat Seattle University 81-71 in their final game of the season and the senior guards' final game of his collegiate career.

A Seattle native, Jones went 4 for 6 from behind the arc, shot 7 for 11 from the field , grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in his last game, leading Portland State to victory. Jones’ 25 points were just two short of his career-high, and sends both the senior guard and the Vikings out on top.

Every member of the Vikings scored on Thursday night in a well rounded win that saw three players score in double figures, as Portland State shot 51.90% from the field on the night, one of their better performances in what has been a season full of hard luck in the Big Sky Conference.

Phil Nelson scored 12 off 4 three pointers and Chehales Tapscott went 4-5 from the field and ended with 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Seattle University struggled from the free throw line, shooting just 66.7% ultimately dooming their chances for victory. Three players scored big tonight for them in Aaron Broussard who finished with 18, Alex Jones with 21, and Sterling Carter who also finished with 18.

The Vikings finish their season with an 14-16 record. The win was just the Vikings’ second victory on the road all season, and are now tied with Seattle University 7-7 all time between the two teams.

With their season officially behind them, head coach Tyler Geving and the Vikings now plan for a busy offseason and the chance to keep building in the Big Sky.
