Update: Brandon Roy comments on music video with Mike Barrett...

There's a buzz around Brandon Roy today -- The Natural, the Face of the Franchise, the Squeaky Clean Golden Boy, father and husband made a cameo in Cali and Cavalli's video "What They Want."

Brandon looks pretty awkward, and frankly, it's rather endearing. The song? It's just okay. A pretty standard rap song from the Seattle duo, and Seattle native and Atlanta Hawks' guard Jamal Crawford also makes a brief appearance.

Ben Golliver over at BlazersEdge asks whether or not fans think B. Roy should be appearing in a video that also features, briefly, marijuana. Come on, right? Should fans knock their superstar for three seconds of face time in a video with local rappers -- rappers who, incidentally, condone marijuana? This is Oregon. You can probably guess the results of this BlazersEdge poll.

More importantly, the Blazers expect to do well, and Greg Oden is reason No.2.

Former Ducks quarterback Kellen Clemens looked like the the best backup to Mark Sanchez last night for the New York Jets --even though he's slotted as the third-string backup as of last week.

Former Beaver Darwin Barney picked up his first hit -- a double -- for the Chicago Cubs yesterday.

Freshman running back Lache Seastrunk turned heads on the practice field for the Ducks, while the quarterback competition is heating up, as both Nate Costa and Darron Thomas continue to make good impressions on Oregon's coaching staff.

In Corvallis, Jacquizz Rodgers is doing everything he can to improve, and the OSU tailback has received some tough criticism from his uncle. The Heisman-hopeful is putting in more and more time in the film room, but here's a concern: too much emphasis on reading the defense and having a "counter move" in mind before the snap can become a problem. Early in the season, we may hear Quizz talk about how he's thinking too much and being hesitant in the hole. Just run, Quizz, and the yards, the touchdowns, and the wins will come.

Beavers wide receiver Aaron Nichols has been covered by media all over the state recently, but check out some of his thoughts on Ryan Katz.

The Portland State Vikings football team is looking to leave last season behind, and Beyond the Beat's Eric King has a few critical questions as the Vikings prepare to start the season.

The Beavers Volleyball team includes seven freshmen, and today Kelsey Zimmerman gets the final introduction. Oregon State also previews this year's setters today.

I spoke with Canadian Andrew Wiggins at the Nike Global Challenge two weekends ago in Hillsboro. He's 15 years old and is 6-foot-6, and Rivals thinks he just might be the next big thing--and no doubt the schools in Oregon will keep their eye on him. It's early yet, of course, but I'll give you my prediction: multiple All-NBA selections. (Good health assumed.)

Look for my final scouting notes from the Nike Global Challenge at Beyond the Beat later this week.
