If you don’t know the name Tyler Johnstone, that’s about to change.

The offensive lineman and heralded recruit out of Chandler, Arizona, verbally committed to Oregon recently, squashing the hopes held by 15 other colleges.

Johnstone is listed as the ninth-best prospect in Arizona by Scout.com, and at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, has surprising length and superb athleticism. Nine of the 16 offers he received were from Pac-10 schools desiring his skill-set to protect quarterbacks and create lanes for running backs.

Tyler - who carries a 4.0 GPA and made unofficial visits to Oregon and Oregon State in late June - said he will only make an official visit to Oregon having expressed his intent to sign with the school. He is done with recruiting.

He will be a Duck.

Like many who sign with Oregon, he has a lot to offer. He is very quick for his size and takes pride in his athletic ability. He isn’t built like a prototypical offensive-lineman, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in speed and agility.

Johnstone was overshadowed on Hamilton High School’s football team by fellow offensive lineman Christian Westerman, with both players helping Hamilton to a state title this past season. No doubt why Tyler is deemed one the best offensive-tackle recruits in the country. He turned a lot of heads during the Phoenix Under Armour Combine this past March.

Even without factoring Johnstone into the equation, Oregon is ten-deep on the offensive line. The same five that paved the way for LaMichael James’ stardom and allowed just 13 sacks last season are returning. And the reserve unit is made up of potential stars for the future.

Now, Tyler Johnstone could be a potential star himself.
