George “Ice Man” Gervin could finger roll.

Word is he’d finger roll for the San Antonio Spurs from as far out as the free throw line. While Gervin’s finger roll was his claim to fame, “Ice Man” gets easily overlooked for the rest of his NBA resume:

-Retired in 1987 retired with the second-most blocks of any NBA guard.

-7 time all-NBA team.

-9 time NBA All-Star

-1980 NBA All-Star MVP

-Name one of the 50 Greatest Players In NBA History

Now, I’m not sure how many of you remember the “Ice Man” poster from Nike, with Gervin sitting on an ice thrown in a grey sweat suit that said “Ice” while gripping two silver basketballs. I didn’t have the poster growing up. I wish I did. But I do have that picture on a shirt Nike produced a few years back.

“Ice Man” – forever the coolest Spur of all time.
