Welcome to my world.

Soccer --the beautiful game. The reasons for the new age mantra are unbounded.

Soccer gives hope to millions and brings people together like nothing else in sports. So what makes me so passionate about the game? It starts with my heritage.

Born in Romania, in Eastern Europe, where my family immigrated to Oregon when I was 2-years-old. Although no one in my family would be described as an avid sports fan, there was a profound interest in soccer among them. But living in Portland I grew up watching the Blazers. Even though I’m too young to really remember the Drexler years, I lived and died by the late teams in the 90’s.

Starting around that same time I began playing soccer and I became increasingly enthralled by the “beautiful game”. Although many people claim and harp on the fact that soccer is boring because of its low scoring style, the beauty is really in the eye of the beholder.

Soccer is much more than just scoring goals. It’s about the art of it. Watch the Spanish National team or the Spanish club team FC Barcelona, and just watch how in sync they are with each other on the field. It’s like watching a grand symphony: all ten players on pitch, each playing their part and role within the team. Soccer is not a “natural” sport. We are not born with an innate dexterity in our feet. It’s a skill that is only perfected with years of practice.

Simply, soccer is existentialism with muscles.

Saturday and Sunday mornings while most are gearing up for football, you can find me watching the world’s best sport. Whether that’s my native country’s league, Liga 1, or other powerful leagues around Europe such as the Premier League, and La Liga in Spain. Over the years I have been able to study the game and really envelope myself in the intricacies of the game which will make my posts more dynamic and interesting for you to read.

As a featured writer for Beyond the Beat, you can expect great content on our local MLS team – the Portland Timbers - leading up to and through next season.

Sure, I’ll go off beaten track to provide an insightful post for my readers.

After all, this is Beyond the Beat.

Unlike other sports, soccer translates to the entire world. Grab a ball, a few sticks, and a couple of friends and that’s really all you need. It’s played both by the poorest of the earth and by royalty too. That’s why it’s the most popular sport in the world.
