LaMarcus Aldridge Speaks The Truth

aldridge

The game was hard on the eyes. The win however staved off a possible LaMarcus Aldridge jinx.

Luckily, he knew what he was talking about.

With Portland putting the hurt on an already hurting New Orleans Hornets – even more so now witnessed by Chris Paul writhing in pain and clutching his left ankle – the Blazers racked up their third-straight road win, a true test more than earlier defeats against Minnesota and Memphis.

But after Aldridge’s declaration earlier in the week, it’s almost like this five-game roadie in seven days had signs of faltering before the Blazers even left Portland.

"I think we've grown up a lot, so I don't see the road being an issue for us anymore," Aldridge told the Oregonian’s Joe Freeman back then. "I think as we find chemistry like we did (Sunday night [at home against Minnesota]) and guys get a rhythm, that's going to go away. I don't feel like the road is going to be a big issue for us this year."

From declaration to avoiding a quote curse, Aldridge easily found his own rhythm in the Big Easy on Friday night.

He messed around and got a double-double (20 points and 13 rebounds). Those numbers allowed Portland to win the points in the paint game (42-30) and contest all together – even it was a tough game to watch by all means.

Rack up another road win for the Blazers. They are on their way to their team road win goal: 25 games.

Like the man said, it’s not “a big issue”.

So you think his All-Star goal is as likely?

Seems unlikely given the depth of forwards in the West.
Remains to be seen

I would love to be as optimistic as LA and maybe they have grown to that point but the true test is how they do on the road against the best in the west. They were something like 2-18 against playoff teams from the west last year and one of those wins, while an impressive come back win from 17 points down, came with Chris Paul missing the fourth quarter. Atlanta and Charlotte will be good tests but I want to see wins in Denver, Utah, at Staples Center (not against the Clips), San Antonio, Dallas, etc. I don't expect them to win all those places but it would be a great sign that they might make some strides in the playoffs this year if they can go .500 in those games.

It could be tough for him because he has shown a willingness to battle for rebounds this year but his average might not go up at all because the Blazers have a different guy step up every night to make a big impact in scoring and on the boards. If the Blazers keep winning though, coaches will recognize things like that where fans tend to focus on the stats.
tough call

thanks for the line guys....

it's such a tough call to make right now. it's too early for my taste to have this discussion, but if you look at what aldridge has done thus far, you have to at least give the guy a write-in vote if you are a coach out west. his number certainly warrant all-star status right now.
