Call it a hunch, but I don’t think Travis Outlaw, Martell Webster and Nicolas Batum got much rest on Tuesday night....especially around midnight.
At least not after they heard what many of us have been reporting the past few weeks. The race for Hedo Turkoglu is officially on.
I’m just wondering if they really need him – and decided to pose some detailed questions over at HOOPSWORLD (“Do The Blazers Need Hedo?) to get the debate going.
The big one for me: if the Blazers ink Hedo to a big deal, will there be enough shots to go around once this summer shopping spree is over?
There’s sure to be plenty to discuss in the coming days, because reaching out to Lon Babby – Hedo’s agent – was the first move by Kevin Pritchard but it’s certainly not the last. We should at least start to look at the big picture here with Portland chasing Hedo. This could spell doom for Outlaw.
And another thing jumps out at me.
I’m hearing – regardless what occurs this offseason in free agency or trades – it’s now about survival of the fittest for the Blazers. Portland is moving on from the rebuilding project from a couple seasons back and it’s now time to separate the boys from the men.
So look for the Blazers to, “go after the best out there and let them fight it out” as one person in the know told me recently.
Considering what we've come to know about Portland wanting to "let it cook" - as Pritchard's said in the past about the young talent - clearly the Blazers are ready to eat and are going all in on free-agency.
And right now, they appear all-in for one of the best available small forwards free-agency has to offer.
