Will history determine what Portland does on draft day with their five picks?
If so, they may be in luck.
Back in the 1985 NBA Draft, Portland selected Terry Porter with the 24th overall pick. A year later, they snagged Arvydas Sabonis at 24. Two years ago, that’s where Rudy Fernandez was taken. Not too shabby. Would Portland take another Porter, Sabonis or Fernandez on the roster right about now?
So, maybe the Blazers shouldn’t move that first round pick after all - or any of them (33, 38, 55, 56) for that matter.
Here’s a quick league wide look at some who went previously in those spots....
24th: Kyle Lowry (Memphis, 2006), Delonte West (Boston, 2004), Nenad Krstic (New Jersey, 2002), Andrei Kirilenko (Utah, 1999), Derek Fisher (Los Angeles, 1996), Sam Cassell (Houston, 1993), Latrell Sprewell (Golden State, 1992), Brian Shaw (Boston, 1988)
33rd: Brandon Bass (New Orleans, 2005), Kevin Duckworth (San Antonio, 1986)
38th: Steve Blake (Washington, 2003), Mehmet Okur (Detroit, 2001), Eduardo Najera (Houston, 2000)
55th: Luis Scola (San Antonio, 2002)
56th: Ramon Sessions (Milwaukee, 2007), Amir Johnson (Detroit, 2005)

I wish I had it to link to you but I guess what I'm saying is that this isn't a very logical progression. it would be like saying since charlotte beat LA a few times in the regular season, and the Lakers won the championship, that the Cats are the best team in the league.
