Wendell Maxey is a freelance writer currently contributing to USA TODAY, The Portland Sentinel - a monthly newspaper serving North/Northeast Portland - and SLAMonline/SLAM Magazine. He has appeared on NBA TV, NBA Radio on SIRIUS and ESPN Radio among other shows and is an active member of the Professional Basketball Writers Association.
His writing has also been notably featured on FOXSports.com, NBA.com, CBSSports.com and NCAA.com.
A former NBA Senior Writer for HOOPSWORLD, Wendell has covered the league for the past six seasons in New York during the Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas era from 2005-'07, New Jersey with the Nets postseason runs in '06 and '07 and now with the Portland Trail Blazers and their Rip City revival. In addition to covering the NBA, Wendell also contributes to Portland Family Magazine and the Oregon Encyclopedia Project, sponsered by the Oregon Historical Society.
Wendell is also in the process of concluding the manuscript for his first book, co-authored with Portland State University Professor William Cornett, on the Negro Leagues 1946 West Coast Baseball Association.
He resides in Tigard, Oregon with his wife Emily and their two daughters, Piper and Stella.
